Tool Lending at the ToolBank

ToolBank USA Charter Affiliate

What is this "tool lending" thing anyway?

So you've probably checked out a library book a time or two, right? How about depositing and withdrawing that hard earned cash? Our business model operates under a similar premise; we make the tools volunteers need available for use.

The Tool Lending Program provides access to over $250,000 worth of tools, yes -that means items such as hammers, rakes, etc.-  for use in community service projects, and is a benefit of membership at the ToolBank.  Fellow non-profits, schools and faith based groups are eligible to join. Whether you are renovating/maintaining a park, painting a mural, building a playground or organizing a community clean-up, the ToolBank can equip your volunteers for a successful project.  In 2009, the Tool Lending Program equipped over 40,000 volunteers to complete more than 1650 service projects in every corner of metro Atlanta.

Please note, the Tool Lending Program is not open to individuals or non-charitable use. So, if the project is conducted on an individual’s property and is for personal gain rather than meeting a community need, our program would not be the right fit.

Tool Lending Program appointments are available Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. and must be scheduled in advance in order to ensure the most efficient experience possible.

ToolBank Membership: ABC Easy!

A) Complete the on-line membership form (click pencil icon below) or contact us to handle the paperwork in person at the ToolBank warehouse.

B) Submit our on-line Tool Request Form, located on the home page under Memberships (Not sure what you need? Call our Master Tool Librarian CJ to discuss!)

C) Pick up your tools at the pre-arranged appointment time.

Please note, there are membership and handling fees associated with borrowing tools from the Tool Lending Program.  These fees help the ToolBank defray administrative and program costs and foster a sense of investment into the ToolBank by collaborating agencies. Click here to review our Membership & Program Guidelines.

Annual membership dues are based on your agency's annual budget:

Agency's Annual Budget

Annual Membership Fee

$0 - 10,000 $25
$10,001 - 250,000 $50
$250,001 and above $100
Government branches or departments $100
Public schools $10

Tool usage/handling fees are assessed at a percentage of the total retail value of tools borrowed. The on-line Tool Request Form lists retail value and will calculate handling fees after you complete the request form process. Tools are checked out in two week increments. Current handling fee multiplier: 6% of tool retail value.

ToolBank member agencies also enjoy informal project consultation as an additional benefit to membership. ToolBank staff is on hand to answer questions regarding the planning/management of your project.  Members are encouraged to call our Master Tool Librarian CJ Clark  at (404) 880-0054 x12 for project advice. For membership inquiries, please call Outreach Director, Gina Chaves at 404-880-0054 x11 or gina@toolbank.org.  We look forward to serving you and your local community!
