2009: The Year of Shirley Shovel & YOU!
CAN YOU DIG IT?
That’s the catch phrase your Atlanta Community ToolBank hoped everyone across greater Atlanta would answer with a resounding YES! And, the response was overwhelming. While our charitable sector weathered one of the most challenging fiscal years in recent history, a silver lining of collaboration emerged. Power partnerships forged ahead, enabling the nonprofit industry to continue serving on time and under budget.
However, it is hard to articulate on paper the true spirit of compassion we have witnessed this year. Volunteerism is up, Tool Lending is stronger than ever and YOU are the catalyst keeping the movement in motion. Whether giving time as a program volunteer, attending our events, donating to the cause or simply spreading the word near and far-YOU have proven it pays to dream big and dig hard.
In keeping with this theme of unity, the Shirley Shovel caricature and tag line were created to illustrate how the use of ToolBank’s shared resource model empowers charitable groups to maximize their funding base, equipping more volunteers to do more good. Shirley’s inaugural reign was one for the record books and we are happy to present your 2009 Atlanta Community ToolBank annual wrap-up and step forward.
2009 was truly a year of blue power and progress with over 39,000 volunteers equipped to complete more than 1650 community improvement projects including 600 facility repairs, 45 school campus improvement initiatives, 6 full playground builds and...drumroll please...1020 greenspace improvement and cleanups projects. Check out how far we've come in only 12 months:
Completed community improvement projects: 84% increase
Number of community volunteers equipped with ToolBank inventory: 52% increase
ToolBank program volunteerism: 59% increase in total number of volunteers and 83% increase in total hours served
